Positive Reinforcement is a fantastic training method. It keeps horses calm, relaxed and willing without the use of any aversive's.

 

There is lots of research into the use of positive reinforcement with horses which shows "that animals trained under a positive reinforcement schedule [are] more motivated to participate in the training sessions and exhibit more exploratory or ‘trial and error’ type behaviours in novel situations/environments."*

Like any method, positive reinforcement has certain "rules" to follow to ensure the best outcome. For example picking the best food reward to suit your horse is vital, a less motivated horse may need a very rewarding treat whereas a extremely motivated horse may just need plain old hay!

 

These videos aim to help you right from the very start of your positive reinforcement journey and give you the resources you need to create a good learning environment for both you and your horse.

How Does It Work?

This isn't a set "course" like some of the other topics. Each video is a certain amount to purchase (some are even free!) and you can pick and choose which video(s) you would like to view to help you in that area or if you like the sound of a specific exercise.
